The industrial day "Achieving competitive advantages with data mining and decision support" was held at the Convention Centre Festival Hall in Bled, Slovenia on 29 June 1999. It was co-located with the 16th International Conference on Machine Learning ICML-99, organized in Bled on 27-30 June 1999.As one of the activities of the Solomon European Network, the industrial day was aimed at enhancing awareness and spreading the use of the technologies of Data Mining and Decision Support in European industry, business and public services.

The industrial day was organized by Nada Lavra c (program chair), Tanja Urban ci c and Milan Stepanovi c (local chairs), and the Solomon European Network, in collaboration with and sponsorship of MLNet2, CompulogNet3 and ILPNet2. The general sponsor of the industrial day was the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia. Other Slovenian sponsors included DROGA Portoro z, Radio Glas Ljubljane, Termo Skofja Loka, and Gospodarski vestnik.

Abstracts of all talks can be found at the Solomon European Network web site at . The talks were attended by 14 registred participants from Slovenian industry, businesses and public services, one non-Slovenian industrial participant, the invited speakers of the industrial day, as well as a various number of ICML-99 participants who were able to attend the industrial day free of charge. Access was restricted to eighty participants, due to space constraints. The lectures (20 minutes each) were accompanied by interesting discussions (that had to be limited to 5 minutes). Joint with ICML-99, the social program of the industrial day included a concert held at the Bled castle.
